In Germany the Biofuel Sustainability Regulation (German: Biokraftstoff-Nachhaltigkeitsverordnung) is in force since 1st January 2011. This regulation provides that all biofuels used in Germany have to meet strict sustainability criteria for both the production in Germany as well as for imports. This ensures that the production of biofuels does not destroy any sensitive areas such as rain forests or peatlands. Biodiesel, bioethanol and vegetable oil must emit at least 35% less greenhouse gases than fossil fuels. In order to ascertain whether this requirement is met the entire production is measured, i.e. from agriculture including fertilization, harvesting, transportation, etc. to consumption the engine.

KFS biodiesel produced out of refined used cooking oil reduces more than 80% of CO² emissions. Being a climate-friendly and sustainable fuel it does not compete with the food industry.

KFS’ Adherence to the Biofuel Sustainability Regulation (German: Biokraftstoff-Nachhaltigkeitsverordnung) and sustainable production of biodiesel has been confirmed by certification according to REDcert.
